I have 2 studio spaces. Each holds one working art student. I have a variety of easels and tables to use, along with many tools.
2019 Winter/Spring: 1 adult - painting
Beginner learning about mediums and how to set up a composition. We started with transparency of colours and mixing two colours to achieve many colours.
2018 Winter/Spring: 2 adults - painting.
1st student is a beginner and learning all the basics in acrylic painting. We started with the fundamentals of using brushes and painting knives along with mixing paints. Tally just completed her 3rd painting. The 1st painting was working with texture and different values. The 2nd painting was modifying a photo image and breaking it into shapes and values. The 3rd painting focused on atmosphere and using transparency. The paints we are using are student grade and are limited to primaries and earth colours.
2nd student is an intermediate painter working in oils and in realism. I have worked with her for 8 years. She had been working on this painting for a few months with interruptions slowing done the process. In this project she is working on shading, fantasy issues of multiple references including a study of her hands, The Grisaille Method, and foreshortening.
2017-2018 Summer/Fall/Winter: 1 youth
This student is working on her portfolio to get into an animation program. I arranged an interview with a friend who works in the business and they talked about the various schools and programs as well as the business side.
I do not do animation but we have worked together to improve her drawing, concepts and presentation. I offered books and tools for her to explore the figure. The books are on anatomy and the tools are sculpture in Plasticine.
In the summer we met once a week but since she has been in school, we meet when she can get time - about once a month or less.
