Painting with Tissue and Collage 2022

Course Description
​In this course we are using Bleeding Tissue paper, Tissue Paper, any Collage paper and acrylic medium and paint. The bleeding artist tissue adds a painterly element and compliments regular papers.  The course will be workshop structured focusing on the technical, the exploration of the materials, composition, texture and colour while encouraging a playful response. 
​Maximum 12 students. Students must bring materials. Please see on website.


Drawing in High Contrast
Mon 1-4pm

Drawing for itself or preliminary work, is a pleasurable activity. Looking at the dramatic chiaroscuro values, the lighting, form and negative space will strengthen your art. This course will look at all those things in and out [plein-air] of the studio.

Update: in-person classes went really well and the creativity of each individual was put to the test.  All courses were fun for those who challenged themselves to these new ideas.

Course Description: Using a variety of Japanese papers, “bleeding” tissue papers and assorted textured papers, you will discover the fun of layering to create beautiful bold or soft art images.

Working with photo references, the students will address the design elements and art theories through the weekly challenges, as they create their own interest driven painting.
Course Description:
Working from photo reference, explore new themes, design principles and technical elements to expand your ability to compose a great painting. Topics will include perspective, overlap, multiples, negative space, collage and the influence of words. Inspiration will be taken from copyright-free photo reference.

palette knife workshops

The Palette Knife is great for liberation of movement and mixing paint.  It gives us texture and layering that is otherwise very difficult in brush work.

Fabric and Portrait Study - Drawing

 We will look at a variety of drapery scenarios - how various fabrics hang, stretch, or hide and reveal the body/object. 
Chiaroscuro, washes, blending and contour  will be explored.  Models will be available in the last classes - to use the skills we have been working on, to show fabric on the human form
