My Thoughts
Students benefit from life and pure fantasy drawing. It is best if you can sketch. Learning to draw to work out ideas is a clear step to expressing visually. I encourage the use of the Thumbnail sketch to start an art piece. Photo References & Copy Right Photos as information or inspiration is a useful tool. Use your own photos or ones found on copy right free sites. Online Paint My Photo or Photos for Artists on FB are examples. |
Being a Student
Technical help and support while enjoying freedom and growth
"Once you are engaged in art, you realise it isn't as easy or as simple as you may have hoped. If you love a challenge, you will enjoy art. Art can help you focus. It will let you express yourself as you please.
I think it is important for the student to have a good attitude about their efforts. It is not the production of good work that is the most important. It can be a deterrent to want perfection in the short term. Brilliance is hard to achieve and is rare even for the well trained. In a classroom setting you have the benefit of the instructor and other students in understanding and experiencing new ideas. Through challenges, you will experience growth. You start to understand and express yourself better with each attempt. You are the one who is doing the work and creating art.
Some of my students have created exceptional pieces. Many struggled with inspiration. Being experimental and open is a necessity for us when we are students. When I was a student, I was intent upon learning technique and absorbing all art information. Being a student is a special time to take risks with others around for feedback, and technical support."

Drawing can be done anywhere and there are many mediums. I teach beginners the fundamentals. Students will learn about perspectives and tonal control, observation and scale.
The mediums are pencil, charcoal, ink and marker. |
Sculpture Workshops
I offer lessons in wire sculpture - using chicken wire and other wire - sometimes incorporating decorative elements or found objects. I have experience with modeling with clay and Plasticine. Paper Mache projects are also available.
